Brides get a pretty sweet deal out of proposals - I mean, sparkly new bling and the person you love dramatically professing their love? What's to complain about?!
But what about everybody else? Personally, I knew that my proposal was coming and wedding planning had tentatively begun, and because I had that warning, I wanted to do something special for the people I loved. I actually had my bridesmaid proposal boxes ready and distributed (in the case of a bridesmaid about to move away) before Mitchell proposed. I also had boxes for the moms, and I got my dad and Mitch a little something as well, and that's what this post is about - hopefully you find some inspiration along the way!
For my dad. I already mentioned that we'd begun wedding planning. My dad and I immediately agreed that we would not dance. (We ended up dancing, but that's a different pandemic-related story). Instead, we would have an agility-ladder race like the coach and player that we are. So for the proposal occasion, what could be more fitting than customized sweat bands? The plan was to dance in, all intense like in a sports game, to put the sweat bands on, and to race, all dressed up in our wedding outfits. This treat will be coming to you soon, when our reception hits in 2021. I surprised him with this gift bag the first time I saw him after I was engaged. These awesome headbands are from Etsy.
The night of our proposal, Mitch gave me a ring. After getting home and calling all our family and friends, I had something for him, too. I had a tie clip and cuff links custom made from a local Etsy shop with some inside-joke, lovey-dovey words, and our wedding date. This travel-themed leather notebook is from Indigo, and I wrote him a letter on the first page.
These gifts are by no means necessary, but I found picking out these gifts to be cathartic and so satisfying, and it was so meaningful to be able to let my favourite people know that I'd been thinking about them throughout my wedding plans. I'm so glad I thought to do this, and I would highly recommend :)
Love,
Emilia
