Picking a first dance song can be really hard, especially if you don't have *a couple song* - it needs to be slow-ish, but with enough of a beat to dance to. It can't be a breakup song. It can't be too long, or you'll be stuck out there on the dance floor forever with people just watching. (And let's be real - the first dance is so cute for about a minute and then it's just like, okay, cool, we're still here... fun). So how to pick the perfect song?!
You could totally dance to Thinking Out Loud, Perfect, or any of the other Ed Sheeran songs that must be formulated purposely to be songs at wedding dances because how else could they be so perfect?! No judgment, I promise. But if you're looking to branch out from Ed, I've got some ideas!
Die a Happy Man - Thomas Rhett
Like I'm Gonna Lose You - Meghan Trainor ft. John Legend
The Bones - Marren Morris ft. Hozier
La Reyna - Penny and Sparrow
Yours - Russel Dickerson
Say You Won't Let Go - James Arthur
Speechless - Dan and Shay
Giving Up - Ingrid Michaelson
The last bit of advice? Don't be afraid to choose something personally meaningful (even if you don't think it's the perfect dancing song), or even something funny. We literally danced to a Christmas song for our first dance (Everyday is Christmas by Sia) because it checked all the boxes for us - it wasn't too long, it starts off serious so you can have the romantic moment, but then it becomes fun and lighthearted when everybody realizes it's a Christmas song, it's got a perfect slow dancing beat, and we have fond memories of the song (and it's fitting, because I was an elf in another life).
